To have the purest, cleanest water, our plumbers recommend installing a water softener. An excess of calcium, magnesium, and other minerals causes hard water and leads to hard water scale build up, causing clogged drains and hard-to-clean scum.We specialize in water softener installation to treat hard water and remove excess minerals, providing homeowners with better quality water.
A water softener is one of those appliances that you don’t think much about. Besides the occasional bag of salt there isn’t much you need to do. Hard water is softened by removing the calcium and magnesium it contains. When hard water passes through the softening system's resin bed, the calcium and magnesium (hardness) ions are removed through an ion exchange process, so only softened water passes through to your home. Once the resin bed fills up with hardness ions, it must be regenerated (cleaned). Salt is typically used in the regeneration process and restores the resin to a "clean" state so the ion exchange process can begin again. Once your softener is over 10 to 15 years old, you will find it difficult to repair it yourself. Parts will be harder to find, and older units were not built in a fashion that allows easy access to the most troublesome areas, the areas that typically can fail.
